Pullip Doll

Pullip dolls were created in 2003 by the JUN Planning company, and although they’ve been available in Japan for some time they have only recently hit the shores of the United States. The Anime look in dolls has been big for several years, with the VOLKS dolls, also from Japan, finding great popularity with fashion doll collectors. The Pullip dolls are not as well known, but they have a very strong Japanese style to them, and they evoke the very popular Blythe dolls as well.

A doll made in 1865 during the Civil War. Original Dress. She's about 140 years old.

Paper Mache & Wax dolls.
Earliest on the left is a Miliner's Model from around 1840s, next one is from around 1870s. Center is a Chase Doll made in Alabama between 1900 to 1925.
Two wax dolls on the right, one is in the Alice Style, far right is an English wax doll.All wearing original clothes.

Momoko Doll

Momoko was created in 2001 as a side project by a Japanese software company called Petworks.

Sekiguchi altered the doll somewhat and turned it into a mass-market item competitively priced with other fashion dolls, but retained the general concept of an "everyday" modern woman one might find walking down the street in Japan.

The Momoko doll, like most Asian fashion dolls, has visible joints and good flexibility, able to tilt and rotate her head, bend and rotate the elbows, bend the knees, slightly flex and bend near the waist, flex the wrists and ankles, and so on. The Momoko doll is able to stand on her own without help, though a white metal stand is included.

Blythe Dolls

Introduced in 1972, and only sold for one year, Blythe is highly sought after by collectors today and can sell for $200 up to $1000 depending on condition and rarity. Almost 30 years later in 1997 Blythe regained popularity when a video producer Gina Garan was given a 1972 Kenner Blythe by a friend and began using it to practice her photographic skills. Gina published her first book of Blythe photography with Chronicle Books, This is Blythe. Later that year, Hasbro (Kenner's successor) gave the rights to make Blythe dolls to Takara of Japan. Blythe was used in a television advertising campaign by the Parco department store in Japan and was an instant hit. Success in Japan led Blythe back to the U.S., where she become a niche product in a marginal market, selling largely to adults. New dolls (petite blythes) can be purchased at affordable prices if you can't afford the rare 1972 dolls. Ebay is a good source for any collector.

Jem Dolls I used to love this doll

Jem originated in 1985 as a cartoon series based on the MTV rock-band glamour era of the mid 1980's. The real stars though were the dolls released by Hasbro in 1985 and 1986 with fabulous fashions and the music from the Jem cartoons on cassette included with almost every doll.
Nearly 20 years later the Jem range of dolls are still amongst the most highly collected toys in history.
I used to have this doll growing up!

Cabbage Patch craze 1983 - Do you remember ?

If you were around in 1983 you'll remember a crafty marketing campaign which resulted in 3 million sales that year. The Coleco company announced there weren't going to be enough of these dolls to go around for the holiday season and you better get them while you can. Each one came with it's own birth certificate and unique name, which made them all the more desirable. Who can really understand why people went nuts over this.

December 12th, 1983 was the day announced that all stores would have the dolls. Hundreds of people lined up around the block.

I was there that day in Macy's New York. When the doors opened, people ran like mad to the toy department, pushing people out of the way to grab as many as they could. It was madness. Some people tried to hold 4 boxes, as many as they could carry.

Stores around the country reported injuries and people were being knocked down and stepped over. The world was a little crazy back then for a doll, nothing since can compare to it. Today only the 1983 dolls are the most wanted, but their prices haven't gone up at all. The thing I remember most about them, was the skin had a baby powder scent.

From the 1988 movie Child's Play. This version of the doll was a promo given only to Video stores. Later versions were sold in stores.
This doll somehow ended up in my collection, this is photo I took. I keep him hidden in the closet lol.
